LO5.2: How post-production techniques techniques create meaning about narrative, representations and connotations.
The short film mainly focuses on a failed romance between two young teens. Due to this being a risky project as the girl in the end turns out to have a girlfriend in the end we didn't want to offended anyone from the LGBTQ+ community. It also has a variety of editing techniques to connote things such as love, heartbreak and conflicting emotions.
In the first scene the protagonist is shown talking to himself in the mirror, however the reflection in the mirror is seen to be talking and doing its own actions in turn with the protagonist. This links in with Levi-Strauss's theory of binary opposition mainly because the reflection shows the opposite of the protagonists feelings this being confident and strong where as the protagonist in the real world feels anxious and worried to talk to the girl. By editing it like this it helps the audience understand what is going on through his head and why this scene has been included in the final product. After this scene there is then a jump cut to the title and the audio changes just shows the amount of transitions and editing techniques we have used throughout the film.
Following onto the transitions used in the film, it doesn't follow the generally jump cut used in most videos instead a VR lens flare is used when the protagonist has his dreams about the girl but then quick cuts to him on his own which helps the narrative show how much he thinks about this girl. This can be shown in the scene of him and the girl talking to each other as the colour changes to a more warmer colour which helps connote happiness, however it quickly cuts away from the scene and colour also changes to a colder tone which can help show the audience how he feels during this part in the narrative. During the dream sequence in the film the colours change to connote love and happiness, this colours mainly include red, light blue and pink.
Looking back onto the beginning of the film the audio used is dialogue of the protagonist talking and also chatter amongst the same which is used a diegetic music, this then gives the setting a lot more atmosphere. When the dream sequence in the product starts there is no dialogue and there is music playing as non diegetic music, the music that is played is a soft and playful which is connoting happiness, this is helps the audience understand the narrative and the change in colour and transitions also help connote a either dreams or flashbacks.
